Native to North America the pumpkin is a gourd-like squash. They are typically orange or yellow and have many creases running from the stem to the bottom. A thick shell covers the outside, with seeds and pulp on the inside. Pumpkins are very versatile and most parts of the pumpkin are edible, including the fleshy shell, the seeds, the leaves, and even the flowers. In the United States pumpkins are very popular at Halloween when the hard outer skin is carved into a jack o’ lantern and the flesh is cooked as pumpkin pie and many other tasty dishes. Giant Yellow is a strong growing cultivar with large, round, salmon-orange fruits which can weigh up to 25 kgs. The flesh is thick, juicy and very tasty. Pumpkin Giant Yellow has excellent keeping qualities and is long lasting when stored.
