Product Information

A very old variety Beetroot Burpees Golden was a favourite delicacy in Victorian times and was bred in America. An unusual beetroot, the attractive, globe shaped roots are an orange yellow colour and when cooked turn a deep golden yellow. Unlike conventional beetroot Burpees Golden does not bleed or stain. Best eaten when about the size of a tennis ball Beetroot Burpees Golden has tender, sweet tasting flesh and a fine texture and flavour even when allowed to grow bigger. Use like a normal red beetroot, Beetroot Burpees Golden can be steamed, cooked in casserole, used raw in a salad, pickled or roasted as beetroot chips. The young baby leaves can also be used raw in salads or left to mature and cooked like spinach or chard. Resistant to bolting, this superb heirloom variety has been unavailable in recent years but is now back in stock.
