Product Information

 POTATO

Desiree

Desiree is a main crop potato variety and has been described as “The world's most popular red potato”.

Originally bred in the Netherlands in 1962 Seed Potato Desiree is a firm favourite with allotment-holders because of its resistance to drought, although it is not well suited to organic growing.

This red skinned, yellow fleshed variety has a distinctive flavour and fairly waxy texture.

Desiree has a good resistance to potato viruses and stores well.

The Desiree potato plant is of a medium height and spread, with a number of stems. The leaves are blue/green open and pigmented.

Tubers can become very large and slightly mis-shapen but that does not detract from this very versatile variety which remains a firm favourite of many.

The recent popularity of Desiree in the UK is often attributed to celebrity TV chef Delia Smith.

Our seed potato Desiree is supplied as Scottish certified seed
