Product Information

Oregano origanum vulgare. Perennial plant with leaf shoots being used as a seasoning. Oregano originates from the Mediterranean area and is closely related to marjoram and is sometimes known as “Wild Marjoram”. The plant demands a well-drained soil and full sun and can be expected to reach a height of approx. 8 inches. The dark green leaves are approx. ¾ inch long and the small white flowers are borne on long spikes. Used as a seasoning for pizza, eggs, meat, fish and vegetable salads. Herb infusion stimulates the appetite and improves digestion. Begin harvesting the leaves and stem tips when plants are 4 to 5 inches high. Flavour will improve after the flower buds form, but before they bloom. Harvest by cutting the stem tops down to the first two sets of leaves, new stems and shoots will grow, producing a second and sometimes even a third crop. Dry the leaves in a warm shaded place, and store them in an airtight container. For the best flavour, add oregano in the last few minutes of cooking. The taste may become bitter if cooked for more than 30 minutes.

Delivered growing strongly in a 9cm pot.
