Product Information

Also called and perhaps better known as Candelabra Primrose or Bee’s Primrose.

A deciduous or occasionally semi-evergreen perennial that forms flat, basal rosettes of light green, crinkly, lance shaped leaves around 20cms long.

In late spring and early summer strong, stems or spikes rarely less than 60cms tall rise from the centre of these rosettes and bear loose, tiered clusters or whorls of small brightly coloured flowers ranging from deep pink to purple each one with a yellow eye.

Each stem can have between six to eight of these clusters or whorls.

Good choice for a damp, woodland site or a partially shaded border or the cottage garden.

Very effective when used along the side of steams, ponds or in the water garden.

Native to the mountain meadows of China Primula beesiana in full bloom is a dramatic sight, especially when grown en-masse.

Best results are obtained when planted in moist, humus-rich, neutral to acid soil with dappled or partial shade.

Can tolerate full sun but the site needs to be moist at all times.

Primula beesiana is an easy plant to grow and should be allowed to self-seed so no deadheading is needed.

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit. (AGM).

Dispatched as well grown 3cm x 3cm plug plants which are best grown on in a 9 or 10cm pot for a short time before transplanting to their growing positions.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been dispatched in error.
