Product Information

Phormiums are known almost universally as New Zealand Flax but Jester is also sometimes referred to as Flax Lily.

A clump-forming, evergreen perennial with broad, sword-like, slightly arching, leathery foliage.

One of the newer, more compact varieties it grows approx. 1m tall.

The long linear leaves of Phormium Jester are incredibly highly coloured, the centre being bright flamingo pink, edged with lime green and the occasional flash or streak of golden yellow thrown in for good measure.

In summer in milder areas tall, leafless spikes bearing erect clusters of dull red, tubular flowers are very occasionally produced.

Ideal for providing year round interest in a border or gravel garden but Phormium Jester is equally at home as a colourful container or patio plant.

Great plant for adding a bit of background structure or exotic style to the garden

Exceptional in coastal areas.

Prefers a site in full sun or partial shade with moist but free draining soil or compost.

When allowed to develop into large clumps these handsome architectural plants make striking specimens and can become marvellous focal points.

This beautiful New Zealand Flax can withstand temperatures down to -10C and is hardy in most parts of the UK but it may suffer foliage damage and stem dieback in extremely harsh winters or in exposed northern locations.

All pictures used are of mature plants and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.

Our plants are dispatched ex.10 cm pots and can be planted in their final growing positions immediately but they may benefit from being grown on in a slightly larger container for a short time before transplanting.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been dispatched in error.
