LOBELIA CARDINALIS
Queen Victoria
Tall, graceful, clump forming perennial also known as Cardinal flower.
When many flowers have already faded this stately, upright, exotic looking plant comes alive.
The spikes of reddish purple foliage are a joy to behold but during August, September and October the flowers take over.
Stunning spikes of brilliant scarlet flowers each measuring approx. 2.5cm across rise above the leaves and these glowing blooms bring a welcome splash of vibrant colour to the late summer garden.
This short lived perennial will tolerate boggy soils but may need to be replaced every third or fourth year.
It is ideal for damp borders and wet spots and looks spectacular when planted beside ponds, streams and other water features.
Large clumps of plants need to be divided every second year in spring.
Although fully hardy the crown of the plant should be protected during winter with a thick, dry mulch.
When mature the plant will be approx. 90cm tall x 30cm wide.
Holds a R.H.S. Award of Garden Merit.
Delivered as well grown in 9cm pot.
