Product Information

Native to North America and also called Dense Blazing Star and sometimes Kansas or Prairie Gay Feather.

A clump forming herbaceous perennial with narrow, grass like leaves, it is grown for its showy bottlebrush-like flowers

In late summer and early autumn spikes of tightly packed buds emerge from the clumps of narrow leaves and open from the top downwards to reveal columns of fluffy, purple or mauve  blooms.

Butterflies and bees and no doubt other insects beneficial to the garden find this colourful late summer display irresistible

This undemanding perennial does not look out of place in a sunny border and is equally at home in the wild flower or meadow garden.

Growing to approx. 70cms Liatris spicata also makes an excellent cut flower.

Crowded or overgrown plants can be lifted and divided in spring.

Plants supplied ex. 9cm pot
