Product Information

First grown in the British Isles in the 16th century the Meadow Cranesbill or Hardy Geranium should not be confused with the half hardy Pelargonium popularly referred to as Geranium.

The Cranesbill is usually found in the herbaceous border where it is used with great success to add colour and suppress weed growth.

Our wonderful collection includes 1 each of the following varieties

Painter’s Palette

A charming and hardy cottage garden plant with deeply dissected, rather attractive green leaves.

Clump forming with an upright growth habit.

Very eye-catching, the flowers range in colour from white to pink, blue to violet and white with blue splashes

An unusual Geranium, Espresso forms loose mounds of deeply lobed, bronze or chocolate brown foliage.

The dark leaves prove the perfect foil for the pale pink flowers which cover the plant from April until August.

Bees find this variety extremely attractive.

Mrs Kendall Clark

This very popular variety produces light or violet blue saucer shaped flowers with attractive white or grey veining in mid-summer.

One of the tallest and most vigorous of the cranesbills at around 2-3ft Mrs Kendall Clark may need some staking to keep the plants looking neat and tidy in the flowering season.

Cut the plants back hard immediately after the first blooms fade and you will be rewarded with a second flush.

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

maderense ‘Alba’

Sometimes called White Madeira Island Geranium.

This is a rare white flowering form of the giant geranium from the island of Madeira.

The flowers each with a pink central eye are held well above the dark green, dissected leaves that make this plant attractive even when not in bloom.

The tall flowering stems and sepals are covered with white hairs that catch the light and further decorate the plant.

These are all unusual and much sought after varieties of meadow cranesbill.

All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.

Plants supplied ex. 7cm pots and can be planted out immediately but may benefit from growing on for a short time in a slightly lager container before planting in their final growing positions.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been shipped in error.
