Product Information

CANDELABRA PRIMULA

Candelabra Primrose

This herbaceous perennial produces clumps or rosettes of basal leaves and strong, tall, upright flower stems.

In late spring/early summer these stems or spikes carry five, six or maybe even seven rings or whorls of flowers which open in succession all the way up the stem and it is these whorls or rings that give the plant its common name.

The have a wide and varied colour range and are available in many shades of yellow, red, mauve, pink, purple, orange and white.

Growing 30-60cm tall Candelabra primroses find a home in many different situations, i.e. The Cottage Garden, Woodland Garden, The Cut Flower Garden and also along the edges of ponds or the banks of small steams.

Outstanding when planted in large groups in woodland or on damp sites.

Also very effective when planted with foliage plants such as ferns or hosta.

Very hardy and extremely long lived but they must not be allowed to dry out.

At their best in partial or dappled shade but full sun can be tolerated.

Although sometimes described as “the bog primrose” it is important to note that they do not like waterlogged soil and also have a strong dislike of lime.

Dispatched as well grown 3cm x 3cm plug plants which are best grown on in a 9 or 10cm pot for a short time before transplanting to their growing positions.

IMMEDIATE DISPATCH

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been dispatched in error.
