Ramanas rose. A strong-growing, perpetual-flowering shrub with stout, densely prickly and bristly stems, 1.5 - 2.0m high. Leaves up to 18cms long, composed of 5-9 oblong, conspicuously veined, rugose leaflets, downy beneath. Flowers fragrant, 8-9cm across, purplish-rose, followed by bright red, tomato-shaped fruits, 2.5cm across intermittently from June to the first frosts. The fruits appear when the plant is still flowering. A well-known rose, parent of innumerable hybrids. Its vigourous, suckering habit enables it to form dense thickets and it is an excellent hedge plant. It is sometimes found naturalised on sandy seashores around the British Isles. Plants are delivered bare-root 40-60cm high.
