Product Information

FAGUS

sylvaticia

More commonly known as Green Beech or Common Beech.

A native plant and undoubtedly one of our most noble trees but it is also grown extensively as a hedge.

The foliage of Beech is superb giving the plant a dense covering of fluttery leaves with wavy edges.

The leaves emerge in spring a soft golden green but mature bright green before turning russet brown in late autumn.

This rich copper coloured foliage is retained throughout the winter and is seldom if ever excelled by any other shrub.

When planting ensure the site is well drained and avoid heavy clay.

Fagus sylvaticia responds well to clipping and is a great choice for wildlife in the garden.

Can be grown in full sun or partial shade.

When laying a hedge Beech should be planted in a staggered row, six plants to the metre with 30cm between the rows, this will ensure a dense, sturdy hedge.

Plants are dispatched 40-60 cm (1.5-2.0 ft.) tall bare-root whips.

CARE OF BARE-ROOT PLANTS

Plants should be unpacked on delivery and if not to be planted immediately should be placed in a shallow trench and the roots completely covered with moist sand or soil.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original despatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been despatched in error.
