PORTULACA
Portulaca grandiflora
Purslane
Sometimes called Sun Plant or Moss Rose.
A low growing annual that produces an abundance of brightly coloured flowers that open in the morning sunshine to form a carpet of colour.
Native to South America it is one of the very few succulent annuals.
The fleshy stems and leaves render it tolerant of both heat and drought.
Portulaca loves the sun and grows best in poor, well drained sandy or gravely soil.
Has many uses, edging borders, cracks in garden walls, between paving stones, rock gardens, containers and sprawling over the edge of hanging baskets.
