Product Information

DWARF TULIP

Red Riding Hood.

A “Greigii” tulip this low-growing variety was first introduced in 1953.

This group of tulips is made up entirely of plants with variegated leaves and “Red Riding Hood’s” leaves are very often stained or striped with brown or crimson.

The searing scarlet blooms, carmine on the inside and black at the base float above the lovely mottled rich green leaves on 10 to 12 inch stems.

Flowers between late March and May and flower stems should be removed promptly after blooms fade to prevent seed formation, foliage however should be left in place until it yellows.

Easily grown, plant bulbs 5-6 inches deep in any well-drained soil in a sunny position during autumn and leave to establish.

“Greigii” hybrids are more robust than many other tulips and may be left in the ground permanently.

Perfect for planting in rock gardens but also effective in beds, at the front of the border or around trees or shrubs.

Extremely versatile, “Red Riding Hood” can also be used in containers or mass planted in large drifts.

Very striking dwarf variety.

Holds a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
