LILY BULBS

Regale

Off Chinese origin, Regale is reputed to be the easiest white lily to grow in most gardens and is reported to be the most popular lily in the U.K. for the last 50 years.

In June and July long, white, trumpet or funnel shaped flowers shaded pale yellow in the throat open from pale purplish pink buds.

Blooms are very fragrant and on a warm summer evening this heady, alluring perfume is almost always described as “heavenly”.

Very floriferous, Lily Regale often produces 12-15 flowers per stem.

Growing to a height of 90 – 100cm the lush silvery green foliage is attractive even before the crowns of fragrant blooms make their distinguished entrance.

The plants tolerate most soils happily, although the length of the stems and the number of flowers depends on the amount of humus and fertility in the ground.

Strong, tall and vigorous this wonderful lily shows best when planted in groups of three or five approx. 5 inches deep in beds or borders

When planting lily bulbs it is a good idea to place each one in a bed of sharp sand or grit, this helps to drain away any excess water and thus avoid rot.

Full sun is preferred but partial or dappled shade is acceptable.
