Product Information

Royal Velvet

Although commonly known as Amaryllis most of the bulbs offered for sale in autumn are really varieties of Hippeastrum.

Originating in the tropical mountain regions of Chile and Peru these amazing flowers are one of the easiest plants to bring into bloom.

In winter and early spring clusters of lily-like flowers are produced on thick stalks or stems over an extended period.

These large flowers and the ease with which they can be produced have led to Amaryllis being in huge demand all over the world.

Flowering approximately 9-10 weeks after planting these fantastic plants are ideal for brightening up your home during the dark days of winter.

As the name suggests large well-formed flowers of the deepest burgundy red with a wonderful sheen giving them a striking velvety appearance.

One grower famously said of Amaryllis Royal Velvet and I quote “like a fine claret for the eye, rich, warm and deliciously complex”.

Stunning when in full bloom and arguably the best of the dark red amaryllis.

This variety appreciates plenty of light.

Follow a few easy steps and these long lived bulbs will bloom year after year.

Supplied as larger than normal bulbs (Size 36-38) these bulbs are capable of producing a number of flower stems and should not be confused with the smaller bulbs (Size 26-30) offered elsewhere.

Pack 1 Bulb

Size 36-38

If ordering a number of items please email us before paying and we will send an Invoice by return.

We ask all our buyers to please remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, your plants will look great during the growing season. Please don’t panic if a plant looks different to the image on the website. It is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just ‘resting’ before it bursts into action in the coming season. Plants do look very different throughout the year. Particularly in winter, many shrubs lose their leaves and will look rather bare and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  A valid reason for return must be quoted. Refunds will only be issued when items are received
