Product Information

A deciduous, winter flowering shrub first raised at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh in the early 1930's.

This medium sized shrub is one of the very best winter flowering bushes available today.

Flowering on bare stems from mid-October until March the dense clusters of small, sweetly scented rose-tinted blooms fade to white as they mature.

Totally hardy, Viburnum bodnantense Dawn prefers a sunny position but if given reasonable soil will grow in conditions from full sun to partial shade and will even tolerate a fair amount of neglect including being grown in exposed sites.

Reaching a height of approx. 3m after ten years, it is best suited to the back of a border but it can be pruned to suit a smaller garden if required.

Viburnum bodnantense Dawn is often used as a cut flower because of their wonderful scent, the blooms are very long lasting in the vase.

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit

All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at this time of year.

We despatch Viburnum bodnantense Dawn plants ex. 10cm pots approx. 6-8 inches tall, they can be planted out immediately but better results are obtained when they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

Multiple purchases attract discounts

If ordering a number of items please email us at     before paying and we will send an Invoice by return.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us at within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original despatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been despatched in error.
