Product Information

Nandina is native to eastern Asia and commonly known as Heavenly Bamboo or Sacred Bamboo.

Despite its common name Nandina is not a member of the Bamboo family but is more closely related to Berberis.

An erect, compact growing, evergreen shrub Nandina Gulfsteam  will reach a height of only 1.5m with a spread of 1.5m after five years.

New leaf growth on this striking and very attractive bush emerges bronze-orange in spring and turns bluish-green as the foliage matures in summer yet it still retains a bronze-orange flush.

In autumn the foliage again turns shades of red and gold before taking on a spectacular winter coat of fiery red.

A carefree shrub that produces vibrant, ever-changing leaf colours throughout the year.

Frost hardy but may need a little protection in severe cold or extremely exposed locations.

Although grown mainly for its handsome foliage Nandina Gulfstream carries sprays of small, dainty white flowers in summer and these are occasionally followed by bright red berries in autumn

Easy to grow, a sheltered spot at the front of a shrub border with moist but well drained acid or neutral soil is ideal but Gulfstream is also adaptable enough to make an interesting and colourful container plant on the patio where it will provide year round interest.

A low maintenance plant, simply prune or cut back any shoots that spoil the shape of the plant in late spring or summer.

Its non-invasive and weather tolerant nature makes Nanida Gulfstream perfect for today’s smaller gardens.

All pictures used are of mature plants and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.

Our plants are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results will be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original despatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been dispatched in error.
