Product Information

More commonly called Weeping Butterfly Bush or Alternate-leaved Butterfly Bush.

A lovely fast growing deciduous shrub with gently arching stems and long narrow grey-green leaves.

Unusual and very showy variety introduced from China around 1915.

From July to September the slender, gracefully weeping branches which often reach the ground are wreathed in delicately scented lilac-purple or mauve flowers which are borne in clusters.

As its common names suggests Buddleia alternifolia is beloved by butterflies but it also encourages many other beneficial insects such as ladybirds, lacewings and hoverflies into the garden.

Easily grown in just about any soil (except waterlogged) including salt laden seaside locations but thrives best in a fertile, well drained site in full sun.

Buddleia alternifolia will eventually reach 3.5m with a spread of 3.5m if left unhindered but it should be pruned hard in March.

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at this time of year.

Plants are supplied ex. 10cm pots approx. 8-10 inches tall, they can be planted out immediately but best results are obtained when they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

Multiple purchases attract discounts

If ordering a number of items please email us at sales@sycamoretrading.co.uk before paying and we will send an Invoice by return.

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us at sales@sycamoretrading.co.uk within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original despatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been despatched in error.
