Product Information

Emerald Lace

Much better known as Japanese Maple or Japanese Acer and occasionally as Laceleaf Maple.

A slow growing, deciduous, medium sized, shrub or small tree.

Very compact, with elegantly arching branches creating a softly rounded crown giving the plant a cascading or weeping appearance.

Extremely ornamental, the finely dissected leaves unfold bright lime green in spring before turning emerald green with delicate red edging in summer and finally fiery shades of red, burgundy and reddish orange in autumn before falling for the winter.

Small pendent clusters of tiny red or reddish purple flowers are occasionally produced in spring and these may be followed in late summer by purple winged fruits.

Although fully hardy even in the coldest of winters, Acer Emerald Lace does need a sheltered spot to protect the foliage from cold drying winds and prefers fertile, moist but well drained neutral to acidic soil.

The best leaf colour is achieved when grown in good light.

Japanese Acers are a great choice for the shrub border but its fine foliage and handsome silhouette also make it a superb specimen plant in any garden.

A slow rate of growth and a drooping habit makes Acer Emerald Lace equally suitable as a pot or container plant for the patio or courtyard.

Generally free of pests Japanese Maples also have a strong disease resistance.

Will reach a height of approx. 10-12 feet with a spread of 6-7 feet after 20 years.

Easy to grow in full sun or light shade just perfect for the novice or experienced garden alike.

The beauty of Acer Emerald Lace increases with age and with such a wide range of vibrant seasonal interest it is guaranteed to make an impact in your garden.

All pictures used are of mature plants and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.

Our plants are supplied ex. 9cm pots and are approx. 30-40cm tall. They can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original despatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been despatched in error.
