Product Information

Often called and perhaps better known as Flowering Maple or Parlour Maple and sometimes referred to as Chinese Lantern.

A firm favourite of Victorian gardeners because of its long flowering season, usually April to November/December.

A graceful evergreen ornamental shrub with thin arching stems and tapering, narrowly ovate 3 lobed leaves.

Showy, pendulous, bell or lantern shaped flowers with apricot-yellow petals and dusky pink calyx are hung from the slender stems in summer and autumn

Although it will tolerate light shade Abutilon milleri does best in full sun but needs a very well sheltered position in the garden. A south or west facing wall would be ideal.

Great for growing in a pot or container on a sunny patio or in a cool conservatory.

It is advised that it should only be allowed to remain outside in milder regions of the U.K. and even then it will still need some winter protection.

In all other regions of the U.K. it is best grown in a pot or container and moved to a frost free area for the winter months

Any reasonable, fertile, garden soil is suitable but it does need a good supply of water during the growing season.

Not a recognised climber but can be trained to grow on a trellis or against a wall.

Prune back hard in spring and if necessary tidy up a little after flowering in summer.

Can reach up to 2m tall if left unpruned.

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

All pictures used are of mature plants in full bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.

Our plants are supplied ex. 8cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

We ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year and just enjoying a well-earned rest before bursting into action for the new season. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our items are checked and inspected visually before packing. In the unlikely event of a problem please advise us within 48hrs of delivery. Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll. Goods will only be accepted for return after seller has been informed and given permission for their return.  Refunds will be issued when items are received back in saleable condition within 14 days from original dispatch date. Buyer must pay all return charges except where an item has been dispatched in error.
